Leica Barnack — Film cutting template (ABLON)

Leica Barnack cameras (I, II, III and all variants) require a specially cut film start. Without the correct contour, the film jams in the camera or does not thread properly. This template replaces the original Leica ABLON (No. 14126).

Why does the Barnack need a film trimmer?

Unlike modern cameras, the film in a Leica Barnack cannot simply be inserted. The film start must be tapered so it fits under the back cover and threads correctly onto the spool. Original Leica tools (ABLON) have not been produced for decades and cost three figures on the used market. The combo version with Quick-Load spool makes loading even faster.

Variant Price
Trimmer EUR 24.95
Trimmer + Quick Load spool EUR 44.95

110 Pocket film & subminiature format

110 film is not available by the meter — it must be cut from 35mm or 120 roll film. This cutter produces 16mm wide strips, suitable for all 110 cameras from Pentax Auto 110 to Minolta 110 Zoom. The combo version additionally cuts 9.2mm for Minox.

Which source format fits?

  • 35mm (Basic): Splits the 35mm roll lengthwise into two 9.2mm strips. Yields four 36-exposure Minox films plus two shorter films per roll. Most affordable option.
  • 35mm + Minox (Combo): Cuts 110 and 9.2mm from one film. Ideal for those shooting both formats.
  • 120 Roll film (Pro): Produces up to six strips per roll. For frequent photographers and labs.
Variant Source Price
Basic: 35 mm 35mm Small Format Film EUR 39.95
Combo: 35 mm (incl. Minox) 35mm Small Format Film EUR 49.95
Pro: 120 120 Roll Film EUR 59.95

Minox 8x11 — 9.2mm Film Cutter

Minox cameras (B, C, BL, LX, EC, and all 8x11 models) require 9.2mm wide film. Ready-made Minox cartridges are rare and expensive. With this cutter, you can trim standard 35mm, 120, or even 16mm film to Minox width — in total darkness thanks to the safety cover.

Four source formats, one cutter

The Minox cutter is modular. The variant determines the source format — the cutting mechanism stays the same. 35mm is used most often: a 35mm roll is split lengthwise into two 9.2mm strips, producing four 36-exposure Minox films plus two shorter films. The 120 variant is more economical for high volume (six strips per roll).

Variant Source Price
2x from 35mm 35mm Small Format Film EUR 39.95
1x from 35 mm 35mm Small Format Film EUR 49.95
6x from 120 120 Roll Film EUR 59.95
1x from 16 mm 16mm Film EUR 39.95

35mm Film Cutter for Film Loaders

If you load 35mm film from metered stock into your own cartridges (with AP, Legacypro, or Watson film loaders), you need a clean cut at the film start. This template creates the correct leader shape so the film feeds smoothly into any film loader and 35mm camera.

Loading yourself saves money

Metered film (30m rolls) costs only a fraction per shot compared to ready-made cartridges. A 36-exposure roll from a 30m roll of Fomapan 100 costs about 2-3 EUR in material instead of 6-8 EUR for a finished cartridge. The cutting template ensures the film start is clean — no creasing, no tangling.
